Dr William Rea FRCA FFPMRCA FRCP

Dr William Rea FRCA FFPMRCA FRCP is a Consultant in Anaesthesia at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and a Consultant in Pain Medicine for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust. He qualified from the University of London in 1996 and completed his postgraduate training in Birmingham.

Dr Rea has considerable experience in the management of all forms of acute and chronic pain, with a special interest in abdominal and pelvic pain. He worked as a consultant at the renowned University College Hospitals London, a National Referral Centre for men and women with abdominal and pelvic pain.

Dr Rea sees patients with all pain conditions, including Chronic Primary Pain; CRPS; Spinal Pain; Neuropathic Pain; Chronic Post-Surgical Pain; and Abdominal Cutaneous Nerve Entrapments. He has extensive expertise in a number of interventional procedures, including Radiofrequency Neurolysis; Nerve Root Block; Sacroiliac Injection and RF; Stellate Ganglion block; Pudendal Nerve Block and RF Denervation of the Knee. He is skilled in using the latest techniques, including ultrasound and x-ray guidance, to ensure the best outcome for his patients.

He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine and a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain. He is actively involved in research in both anaesthesia and pain medicine and has been widely published in several peer reviewed journals. His anaesthetic special interests include regional anaesthesia and education. Dr Rea holds a Master’s degree in Education for Health Professionals and has held the prominent role of Regional Advisor for Pain Medicine, delivering training on a local and national level.

Dr Rea is a father of two active boys and enjoys walking, reading and gardening.
